A series of Disaster Management meetings have ensued after the bad weather that killed five people. Thimphu had two casualties, and it could have been worse. Houses are built close to the river, some of them are shacks. People did not understand that the river could be dangerous, everyone flocked to see what was going on by the river banks….. (including us)… those living by the riverside would not leave their homes……we didn’t get adequate warning, even though the cyclone in bangladesh was known about. Our buses are stuck in the Thimphu Phuentsholing Highway, travellers probably having the worst time of their lives. School children were seen crossing the river and it was just so scary!
We are so unprepared!
